SKILL Basic Sicklekind
GAINED Day 170, The Hatter's Skill Loser Game

The skill he received is basic sicklekind, which is the Homestuck way of saying he fights with a sickle. Anyway, in canon, Karkat is far from the best fighter of the group, but like all the trolls, he's a very good fighter by 13 year old kid standards. So basic sicklekind will give him some moves and get him to a point where he's able to hold his own against most reasonably skilled fighters! It will take advanced sicklekind before he's able to do his less realistic hang in the air/jump around really fast video game looking moves. And sicklekind will never get him to the point where he's on par with your shonen anime types.
In canon, Karkat spends a lot of time in his room practicing with his sickles and looking really doofy. Like so:
As we can see he mostly appears to fight with it by whacking his monster dad with the blunt end of the blade! We don't ever really see him get lethal with it (even later we mostly just see him whacking people with it), but presumably he can!
Sicklekind will probably never be any use beyond fighting monsters and stuff; despite his obnoxious personality picking physical fights is not something he does often.
