[Action; 1338 Benny Road]

[Karkat took his turn with the milk on the first day, to bring Jade back from kill drone state. He's been dealing with the after effects of the nasty poison that was inside ever since.

But today it was his turn again. He had been too sick the day before to prevent Jade from drinking her share, but this evening he prevented that from happening again by just refusing to go to sleep. Once he heard the milk delivery in the morning, he dragged his ass down to the front door to drink the bottle.

His housemates will find him still downstairs, holding the empty bottle of milk. He has the TV turned on to some infomercial for a groundbreaking new blender, and he's watching in fascination and horror.]

[Phone]

[Karkat's voice sounds hoarse and urgent when he picks up the phone to call Mayfield later that day.]

Okay.

Don't look now.

But the horrorterrors are right behind you.

Oh fuck! You unbelievable dumbass, I told you not to look!

[Action; Around Mayfield]

[Shortly after the phone call, Karkat wanders outside for a little bit, not really paying attention to where he's walking. He's carrying a paper towel roll curved in a way that looks vaguely like a sickle, and is swiping it randomly at the air from time to time.]

[Phone; Later]

[Much, much later that night, an extremely tired but lucid sounding Karkat makes a phone call once again.]

Wow. Uh.

So, I'm sure Jade and Gamzee didn't let me make any phone calls or anything earlier, right?

Just making sure about that.

[Okay, he's starting to believe her. It's the little details, like knowing that he always cries whenever he thinks of the ending, that really makes the story.]

That movie is a classic, you should be flattered! Besides, if you hadn't noticed, my sponge was incapacitated by hallucinogenic bovine lactate. I can't be held responsible for my actions.

[Terezi laughs very loudly, albeit a little affectionately, and then tilts her head thoughtfully.] ...Was that what the problem was? I thought you had gotten some serious cranial damage.

[He actually blushes a little at that even though he knows she's just making fun of him. Good thing she has no way of knowing!]

Okay, so you showed up here at a really bad time. Every so often this place decides it's really going to fuck with us for a little while. To make a long story short, there are horrifying consequences best not discussed if no one drinks the milk. The milk itself ranges from annoying to terrible, too, but not as bad as not drinking it.

So we're taking turns while this lasts, and today was my day.

So, is this why Equius is so eager about the stuff? Hehehe! It makes you an idiot if you drink it? I guess that explains a lot.

Okay, please don't remind me of that. The entire time I was trying to get it down, I couldn't stop remembering that he drinks that shit. Human milk doesn't come from lusi, so it's not the same.

No, I'm pretty sure you were acting like an idiot anyway. You were going on about 'him' and your new hive and then you got us lost a bunch of times!

[He isn't sure how much longer this is going to last, and while he'd rather not get into how much of a mess this has been, he also doesn't want her left unprepared.]

[thinks a bit.] There was what I think was a human woman, now that I'm thinking about it... She definitely acted like she knew me! And she fed me. It was strange!

A drone? [she leans forward with interest. oh now she thinks it was a robot...] What'll happen if I don't drink it?

It's a person who thinks they belong here and acts sickeningly cheerful about it. They seem like game constructs, but they're not. They take us sometimes and scrub down our pans so we act like that.

[He knew he should have written a letter like Adam Sandler. Explaining this to her all over again is starting to get him angry.]

If you don't drink it, they'll panscrub you, and they'll make you go on a murder spree.

[oh Karkat............. don't worry they can have their creepy ending where he keeps romancing her despite the fact that she doesn't know who the fuck he is.]

Mm. [she taps her lower lip thoughtfully.] That sounds pretty fucking ridiculous!

...But I can't think of any reason you'd want to lie to me, either. Even if I can't sniff it out.

Holy shit. You just show up in this dangerous place and I try to explain things, and you just assume I'm fucking with you somehow.

I'm pretty sure when you explained to me, I just accepted it.

[she pulls her hands away, frowning.]

[This has always been the most annoying part of it for him; he doesn't like the idea that past versions of himself had been running around here and he had no idea what they did. But he hopes she'll just accept it.]

Remember how I said they panscrub us sometimes? When they do that, you lose all of your memories of ever being here. This is the second time I've explained this to you, but when I first got here, you were already here.

I don't know how many times we've been panscrubbed and forgot everything. But I was here at least once before that I don't remember.

[her grin fades.

well. it's not like this is a foreign concept to them- alternate versions of selves, past actions, branching timelines. but it's not a pleasant thing to hear.]

...Huh. [that much, at least, she believes. and he doesn't sound too comfortable talking about it, either.] How long have I been out of it?

A little over a human month.

[He's afraid he sounds a little too much like he really missed her, which probably wouldn't be an awful thing to sound like, but it bothers him anyway.]

You keep coming and going with Vriska, too. It's pretty fucked up.

That does sound fucked up.

[she smiles a little, but she's still perceptive enoguh to hear that strange tone in his voice, and she leans on him a little.] Well, okay. I won't ask any more questions for now.

I don't care. I'll answer questions if you have them.

[But he'll put his arm around her and get comfortable, at least, or as comfortably as such a generally tense person ever gets.]

Okay, here's one. Someone told me my hair was red. Tell me how delicious it looks!

[she's just teasing him now, trying to get him to relax a little.

okay well she also wants to know whether or not her hair is cherry-soda-delicious-looking, but that's a secondary reason ok.]

Who told you that? They have to be warned to stop encouraging you. They probably don't know what they're in for yet.

It's not even that red. It's basically brown, only a reddish brown.

A nice Lord of Time I met called the Doctor! He knows a lot about time shenanigans, Karkat. I think you should try talking to him. He might even be able to help us.

[makes a face...... oh she wants it to be cherry red so bad.] So it's more of a strawberries-dipped-in-chocolate kind of color? Or is it more like fondue?

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, too. If there's one thing I really want more of in my life, it's time shenanigans.

It's reddish brown. I guess you could sort of say it's just like brown, only slightly more reddish.
